AFRICA MEDICAL MISSION TRIP

From 1st to 12th January 2020, a team of medical staff, including a dentist, doctors and nurses from Hope Church Gold Coast, travelled to Southern Africa for a medical mission trip. This was a support trip for our church leaders Ps. Lance and Belle Wolter with their ministry in Malawi and Zambia. We were amazed at the testimonies that have come forth over the two weeks. We realised there’s so much more to be done in our hearts.

Even though our trip started with challenges, including delays and changes to flights, and our medical supplies getting lost in transit, we were forced to rely on God even more with His sovereignty and power over the situation. Despite our limitations, we were still able to conduct our first medical clinic day in Malawi. As a result of loosing most of our medical gear in transit, we had to work with basic equipment and pray for the sick. Those who did not get healed immediately, we loved as best we could with hugs and a listening ear. The full day ended with a powerful crusade, fighting off mosquitoes, and ministering to those who were need.

The medical team visited a total of four Hope base villages to provide health/dental consultations, free medications, health education and dressed open wounds. We witnessed extreme poverty, people living in poor housing, people are undernourished, they had poor skin conditions and various infections. It was heart-wrenching to see so many people suffering unnecessarily because of poverty. The team was united and focused on bringing the love of Jesus in practical ways to the Hope Family in Malawi and Zambia. The doctors were unflinching in their resilience to tend to hundreds of patients, crammed into short spaces of time with poor lighting. We were often working in unconventional and tough terrain as well.

God also showed us great favour in opening the door for us to be able to do crusades across the two nations. Despite the language barrier, the team was ready to share the word and ministered beautifully from the heart in a raw ways. We estimated that we ministered to over 500 people from the four base camps. The reality of God penetrating hopelessness was so powerful. We prayed and saw a number of salvations and healing miracles, including sore throats, body pain, face pain being healed, eye sight being restored, toothache and abdominal pain healed in Jesus’ Name.

Overall, our team aims to pioneer a sustainable plan to help meet both medical and nutritional needs to raise the health of the villages. We also hope to improve the living conditions in one of these villages, in Nkhata Bay, Malawi. In addition to this, by divine appointment, we managed to meet a group of doctors who have set up several medical clinics in villages, so that we can learn from them as well. We are still praying and seeking God as to which village to establish our first medical clinic in. We would like to say thank you to all those who supported us through prayers and donations.
