HIM PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE: PASTOR SIMON ENG

Multiply 4 Generations

Regarding disciple-making, let me share with you 2 Timothy 2:2 where Paul encourages Timothy, “…whatever that you have heard from me, whatever you’ve seen in me, teach and entrust to reliable men who will be able to teach others as well.” Paul in this passage of Scripture is emphasising four generations: that is, Paul himself, Timothy, entrust to reliable men, faithful men who will also be able to teach others.

Paul is emphasising CONTINUITY, Paul is emphasising QUALITY control, Paul is emphasising that we don’t just disciple one, but we teach them how to disciple others who will be able to disciple others as well. Jesus emphasised this so that we will be able to continue to MULTIPLY whether it is local, whether it is global, whether it is cross-cultural. I have seen it in my own 20 over years of experience. I have leaders who have gone down to the fourth generation and they are continuing to multiply.

Whether it is in Malaysia itself, or different locations around the world, I am focussing on multiplying the people that I disciple so that I encourage them not to just disciple one but they multiply to the third, fourth generation as well. This is a very important focus. Sometimes we mentor, we disciple one generation, and we forget to monitor or we forget to look at quality control to the third and the fourth.

If you disciple one generation, sometimes you may go out with your current generation of disciple or your people you are mentoring. Go with them and watch how they mentor others. In this way, you can easily touch three generations. You, the one you mentor and the ones they mentor and the ones that you mentor can continue on mentoring and observing others in their third generation.

In this way, FOURTH GENERATION IS POSSIBLE and we can ensure that the third generation that we are double-mentoring will be able to do that job further down the line as well. It is an exciting concept, it’s an exciting principle that Paul was teaching Timothy. Try it – maintain that quality control, maintain that process control and I’m sure you will see greater success in your discipling and raising of committed disciples in the church and God’s family.
