HOPE QUITO EQUIPS FOR DISCIPLESHIP & COMMUNITY PROJECTS

Discipleship Training

At the beginning of 2014, God spoke to us from 2 Timothy 2:2 “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.” Since then, we have been having communities regularly that help to equip both our leaders and members for teaching and discipleship.

On 2 September this year, we started our first 3 year preaching course in Hope Quito. One of our leaders, Claudia got certified to be a trainer in Langham preaching course recently and she is currently training the first group of people in our church. 9 people signed up for the preaching course including all the core team members and a few church members. You can read more about the Langham partnership here: http://langham.org/?red=url It was founded by John Stott. The idea is to equip the brothers and sisters in church so that they can know God more by understanding the Bible in context and be able to teach others in the future.

Community Projects

This year, God also put in our heart a verse from James 1:27 “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” We have been collaborating with Pan de Vida with many projects to cook for the less fortunate families and street kids. Our leaders and church members who are trained in teaching the Bible have also been helping them to know God more through the small group Bible studies. We believe that God wants to use us to impact the community in a tangible way and to disciple the people who want to be discipled.

Recently, we have been raising funds for a 7 year-old girl, Gina, from Pan de Vida who suffered burns on her hands and face in a house fire. The whole family was affected and her 9 month-old baby brother died in the fire. According to Pan de Vida and the analysis of a hospital in Quito, Gina needs to go through a skin operation which costs USD$7,000. Here is a photo of my wife, Phoebe with Gina in Pan de Vida. Together with another church, we have raised USD$4,000 for Gina’s operation after one month. Many people spend lots of money on plastic surgery for vanity reasons. This little girl, Gina, needs this operation to live a normal life again. If you want to contribute to her operation, you can write to me in email: hotimothy.79@gmail.com. If you want to know more about Pan de Vida, you can also watch the video.
