HOPE MALAYSIA MISSION TRIP & CHURCH CAMP IN BOTSWANA

Lena Ting from Hope Johor Bahru together with a team from Hope Melaka consisting of  Ken Tan, Brother Jason Goh, Sis Siew Peng and Ps David Lai embarked on a mission trip to Botswana in the month of April 2014. This was a 2-week mission trip inclusive of 10 days’ stay in Botswana and a 3-day visit to Hope Johannesburg. The purpose of this mission trip was to gather all the brothers and sisters who were once part of Hope Melaka to encourage and guide them in the church planting work in Botswana. The team visited many of the members’ homes and received warm welcome.

Besides that, we also had the opportunity to visit other churches and Christian organisations such as ACTS Church that was pioneered by a Malaysian, Scripture Union, Apostle Faith Mission (AFM) at Gaborone and Evangelism Fellowship Botswana (EFB) which functions like NECF in Malaysia. We shared with them our intention of starting Hope Church and received no opposition but support and blessings from them. Besides that, we also had the opportunity to visit the museum and some tertiary education centres in Botswana.

The first Hope Botswana church camp was held during the Easter holiday of which many joined. We had 3 days and 2 nights of wonderful teaching, ministering, sharing, prayer, fellowship (we cooked all of our meals together). The spirit and passion of the team in Botswana was stirred and they responded to plant a strong and biblical church. The core team was defined and guidelines were set for them so that they have a clearer picture of the type of church to be built. Richard Mooketsi will be the coordinator, while the core team consists of brother Gofaone Nnosang, Pamela Lorato, Lemo Moteu, Tshepo, Thato, Patience and Gloria.

On the last day of the camp, our spirits were moved for this beautiful nation as we prayed and declared God’s sovereignty over this nation on a mountain behind our Richard’s house. We declared Jesus as the Lord over the villages and nation. After the camp, Ken and Ps David headed back to Malaysia while the other three team members continued their journey to South Africa. They were humbled and touched to see the tent church in Johannesburg, people with such simplicity but with much faith in the Lord.

This mission trip was indeed one that is marked by God’s favour. After the mission trip, we continued to pray for Hope Botswana and continued the communication with the team to spur one another on in the vision. Indeed, a visionary church is very much needed in every nation in this case in particular - Africa! God bless Botswana, God bless Africa!
