CATALYSE - CHURCH PLANTING COURSE By PASTOR JAMES LOKE
HIM has been planting churches globally over the years. We have written much on many subjects of building vibrant churches, church growth as well as pioneering. In a review of our movement in 2010, it was felt that there was a need for a structured church-planting course. The writers who are instrumental in developing the course are James Loke, Julian Lee, Puji Silva, Jirote Bongkokmart (JR) and Lawrence Ong,
The 8 subjects that will be covered will be:
Bible doctrines: This is designed to give grounding to basic bible doctrines as church planters do face many questions on what they believe in.
Expository preaching: Church planters do not necessarily have had a chance to preach in their home church so this prepares them for an important task they face weekly.
Keeping our ethos: What is our philosophy of ministry? How do we articulate this in the beginning and how do we maintain it over time?
Pastoral management: Church planters may never have functioned much as pastors before being planting churches. This covers an overall view of what a pastor does.
Life management: Most of the church planters will be tent-makers as well. How will they manage different aspects of their lives?
Problem solving: This takes principles learned to the application stage. Church pioneering is all about operating in new spheres. It is important to learn how to translate principles into practice.
Ministering in the Holy Spirit: This covers areas of how to minister to people with the help of God's Spirit. It talks about praying for healing, prophecy and how to minister during altar calls.
Cross-cultural communication: With our emphasis on global mission there will be many who will have to go cross-cultural and learn about cross-cultural communication and contextualisation.
We aim to have a beta course ready at end of 2014 which would then be tested by some local HIM churches.
