HIM FAMILY NEWS

Campus Christian Movement Student Conference 2013

Our annual CCM student conference, themed ‘Change Your World’, was held on 6-7 July 2013 at Watson Convention Park in Brisbane. We saw a total of 227 delegates; mainly students from The University of Queensland (UQ) and the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). In addition, we welcomed a couple of interstate delegates at our conference this year.

We had a total of three sessions, and many were blessed by what our pastor and leaders shared. We were challenged to take on the role of a true blue world-changer by learning about the characteristics one needs to change the world. Focus was also placed on the setting our hearts right before God. As Pastor Joshua Chee mentioned, “The throne of our heart will direct our life”. Furthermore, the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, the foundation of the Word, and the commitment to serve God’s mission were highlighted as essentials to grow to be a world-changer. Many hearts were ministered during the conference, and we believed that seeds were deposited in many lives. It was an enriching time as we soaked ourselves in the word of God.

During one of the sessions, we had a feet-washing ceremony, and it was one of the main highlights of the conference. It brought new revelations regarding leadership. Barriers were broken between mentors and mentees and there were such a unity of hearts. It was truly a humbling experience to see our leaders serve His people, and it inspired many to do likewise.

Spirit-filled praise and worship songs, fun-packed outdoor activities, encouraging testimonies, good fellowship… what could be a better way to start off our semester break? All of us had a great (but tiring) time, and we just want to thank God for all that He did in those two days. The conference might have come to a close but we know that things that were deposited will continue to grow for His purposes and ways. To God be the glory.

HIM Manila Youth Ministry

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. – Isaiah 43:19.

The Philippines, is truly at the threshold of prophetic fulfillment. By the Lord’s grace, faithfulness, and mercy, He is bringing to pass every promise in His time. Directions have been given to Hope Manila, that as Jesus’ followers, we need to continue to strengthen the stakes of its tent. Obeying, as the Spirit leads, together, we continue to grow and enlarge, not only in territory but in expectation and faith.

From 10am-12pm, every Saturday, a Youth Service has opened to reach out to students from different campuses and universities. The message is more focused to the needs of every individual and how the Bible and Jesus can help them in practical ways in balancing studies and other aspects of their life. It reinforces that there should be no higher authority than the Bible. It is our strong foundation of truth. The purpose of the Bible is to direct and equip the youth in the vital role they play in the expansion of God’s kingdom.

Campus Ministry does not end at college graduation day. A life group, New Generation, was created for those who have graduated and just started working. This is to address a common need of the Father’s good, pleasing and perfect will for their lives, not only in the area of work but also to help them adjust with other roles they play in the Body of Christ, in their family, in their community and engage every individual in understanding each other’s situation and provide one another wise counsel.

Pasig Center is another fruit of the Holy Spirit’s movement in people’s hearts. As the church has committed itself in planting and watering seeds, growth has followed. Every Saturday, we have scheduled a Word for Life class for the family group from 2-3pm. At 3-5pm, there is Word for Life with the youth. Every step up to the fifth floor of the venue is worth taking, because it means meeting the Lord Jesus.

Praise God in the new things He is doing. Although, we are not worthy and that He is not in need of anything, yet He desires to employ instruments like us to fulfill His plan on earth. There is great joy in our hearts to serve the King of Kings, for we know that it is not by man’s strength or skill, but by surrender and obedience to the lordship of Christ, that souls are saved. They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness. – Lamentations 3:23.

Ablaze Kuching Youth Camp

Ablaze Kuching had its annual youth camp from 14 to 16 September at CWC Convention Center in Bau (about 20km outside of Kuching). This camp was jointly organized with Hope Kota Samarahan and LifeIMPACT. We had around 90 campers with some pre-believers as well. The campers are from three congregations, namely Ablaze Kuching, Youthnited (Mandarin congregation youth) and Hope Kota Samarahan. This year, the program totally differed from the other years. We brought in a life simulation game called LIFEGame. This game provides an environment for campers to discover God’s purposes for their lives in this world. This game was facilitated by an organization called LifeIMPACT.

In LIFEGame, the camp setting was a “make-believe” world. Campers were given the opportunity to live out their whole lives as they wish. They started at the age of 15, began to pursue their dream, got an education, got a job, got married, started a family, etc. Every hour, they aged 5 years and they had to take care of their basic needs such as clothing, health, food, etc. Similar to real life, they faced health problems, accidents, natural disasters, fines, and some even died. Some died prematurely and some lived to a ripe old age. Some were really successful in life while some remained quite poor. It is all about living life and that was when the reality of life set in. Eventually, people began to ask, “What’s the point of life?” and this gave them an opportunity to discover God’s purpose in their life.

Game sessions were interspersed with teaching sessions by Ps John Kwan of LifeIMPACT, entertaining but meaningful skits by the LifeIMPACT volunteers and even a Talent Night. All in all, the camp was a huge success. Many campers re-dedicated their lives to Christ, pledging to fulfill the Great Commission and from this camp, there were also salvations. The lessons learnt from this life simulation game really made many ponder about their lives and whether they are living their life in line with the call of God. Many pondered whether they are just wasting their lives away and they really felt the urgency of spreading the Good News. My heart was so touched to see many people in tears on the last day of the camp as the Holy Spirit moved.

The following are some testimonies from campers:-

“The game was really great and it impacted my life. I learnt that it is not good enough to help and protect people on earth but we have to help save people’s souls, that they will have eternal life too.” -Ariestine Ang-

“I’ve been searching for an answer before camp and I am glad that during these three days in camp, I prayed to the Lord, He showed me visions and I finally got the answer and lesson to be learned.” -Adison Pui- “I realized that whatever we are seeking now is totally worthless but knowing and accepting God is what matters most. Life is so short and we may die anytime. I need to prioritise my time towards the Kingdom of God.” -Tan Cheong Loong-

“Out of all the camps that I joined, this is the most significant, as it reflects my life and how I wish I have a second chance to make a better decision in life.” -Tay Hui Na-

After participating in LIFEGame myself, I highly recommend this game to other student or youth ministries. However, this game is not limited to students and youth. This game is open to people aged 15 years old and above. The oldest participant they ever had was in his 80s! It is a good evangelistic tool as well. We thank God for Ps John Kwan and LIFEImpact for really impacting the lives of the campers through this interactive learning camp. This game is the brainchild of Ps John, who is now based in Penang. However, they have facilitated this game in other countries outside of Malaysia. Should you require more information about LIFEGame,

Other than LIFEGame, they also have Junior LIFEGame for 10-14 year olds and various other games. Check it out!
