HIM THAILAND CAMP 2019 UNSHAKABLE
Chiangmai, Thailand - 2019 marks the 10th year HIM Thailand has been hosting annual national camps. This year's camp, with the theme Unshakable, has more than 2500 delegates from all over Thailand gather at the prestigious Chiangmai International Convention and Exhibition Center to worship God and fellowship with the bigger spiritual family.
Unshakable, which lasted from July 13 to 16, allowed the church to look into and prepare for the end times. All the teachings centered on how we should remain strong and unmoved in truth, love and hope, so we can ultimately remain victorious till the end. Speakers included HIM President Simon Eng, Ps James Loke, Ps Yongyut Wiraponsawan, Ps Kobchai Chirathivat, Ps Chuchart Chaisombat, and Ps Chaiyapruck Piwruangnont.
The camp had its grand opening on Friday night, featuring a mash up of traditional and modern style Thai cultural presentation. The colors and sounds were truly a feast to the senses. It was a reminder about how God has redeemed all creation - including cultures such as this. It was also graced with the presence of the Vice-Governor, who assisted in handing out incentives for outstanding students.
Day 2 presented an opportunity for the delegates to attend any of the 39 workshops that covered a wide range of topics such as: church, ministry, relationships, business, media, health, education, and performing arts. Pastor and members alike enjoyed the variety of topics and found the lessons relevant to their own domains. Workshops were well attended.
The camp was not only aimed at adults but also at kids and youth. The children had a blast in their own worship sessions and fun-packed lessons. Talented and dedicated teaching volunteers were very much hands-on in the planning and execution of every activity; the kids greatly enjoyed their own portion of the camp, which helped their parents become more focused on theirs. The youth also had their own worship sessions and interactive games.
This year's camp also marked the official launch of the HIM International Philharmonic Orchestra (HIPO). HIPO's roots date back to 2000 in HIM Hatyai when violin was introduced to the church. However, it was only in 2016 that a small group of two adults and four kids started rehearsing together and seeking professional training. The following year, the group had the chance to play at HIM Camp in Chiangmai and more people expressed their interest in joining the potential orchestra. HIPO continues to grow in number and even has an active website for sharing resources.
HIM camp concluded with the banner now passed on to the central region, with Bangkok hosting next year's camp!
