HOPE SINGAPORE U_SPACE YOUTH CENTRE

On 15 August 2015, Ms. Denise Phua, Mayor of Central District Singapore, graced the opening ceremony of U_SPACE by Hope Centre. It was a successful opening where many of our community partners and grassroots were present to support the event.

U_SPACE by Hope Centre is supported by both Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) and the National Council of Social Services (NCSS). It is a youth centre situated at a HDB void deck, aimed at catering programmes for youths who live in the vicinity of Kampong Glam and the rest of Singapore. According to statistics, there are about 4000 youths living in Kampong Glam, making up 12.1% of the population in the vicinity. Some of these youths face a myriad of unfavourable conditions, which in turn may lead to negative outcomes in their lives.

U_SPACE is more than the four walls and a place where youth gathers. By providing an environment conducive to learning and growth, Hope Centre seeks to affirm and challenge the youths to realize their fullest potential. We empower youths through engaging and training them in the areas of education, sports and arts. We offer a range of enriching programmes that seeks to inspire youths from lower-income families. These youths are given an opportunity to acquire new life skills, improve their self-confidence, develop meaningful friendships and a sense of belonging that will bring about positive changes in their lives. With the launch of U_SPACE, Hope Centre looks forward to engage, enrich and empower the youths of Kampong Glam and Singapore!

Some of the signature youth programmes that have been running under Hope Centre includes DreamPACT Bursary Awards, HD Movement Dance, GoalKICK Soccer, Guitar Classes and Tuition With Love. Moving forward, we hope to continue to fine-tune on our current youth programmes and introduce new programmes, which cater to the needs of the youths in this dynamic society. There are more lives to be impacted, and we believe there are no broken lives God cannot reach.
