THE INSTITUTION OF MARRIAGE By Nicola Song

Pastor Dinah Lee-Phua, together with her husband, Pastor Ben KC Lee, oversee HIM churches in North America. A bivocational minister, Pastor Dinah works in Focus on the Family Singapore as Head of Research and Development. Focus on the Family is a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping families thrive in every phase of life. In Nov 2013, she was invited by ChannelNewsAsia to give expert views on the institution of marriage on their current affairs TV programme Sg+. This episode discussed the social trends challenging marriage such as co-habitation, infidelity and rising singlehood in Singapore.

Pastor Dinah and another invited expert, Dr Norman Li (Associate Prof of Psychology, Singapore Management University), gave great insights on this topic which applies to other countries too. When asked, “Do you think that the institution of marriage is weakening?”, Pastor Dinah replied, “The institution of marriage is NOT weakening but the people entering into marriage ARE.”

 We share this with you to encourage us to uphold the institution of marriage, to nurture relationships, to disciple our children and people well, to build committed and loving marriages to glorify His name. Everything starts at home!

This is also a great example of a Christ follower exercising God-given influence and expertise to impact people beyond the four walls of the church. We thank God for this favour in her life and the opportunity to impart Biblical values through the media. We pray that this will inspire the rest of us in the HIM family to know that we too, can move beyond the four walls of the church and be salt and light wherever our sphere of influence and expertise is.
