There was excitement in the air as the audience, consisting mainly of parents accompanied by their children, streamed into the Axis auditorium filling its seating capacity of 400 for this event which coincided with Mother’s Day.
Former television artiste Mr Yang Guang stepped on stage to rapturous applause and began the evening’s proceedings with a round of greetings and games. Parents felt very much appreciated as their children who invited them took to the stage and taking their cues from host Yang Guang, expressed their love for their parents. By this time, the hearts of the people were open and Yang Guang handed the time over to the worship leaders for a time of joyful praise and worship as the believers took time to honour God, undoubtedly the true star of the evening.

Local celebrity Mr Chew Chor Meng was then introduced. Chor Meng, a veteran actor in the Singaporean television scene, began recounting his journey towards accepting Christ in fluent Mandarin and dialect; winning over the largely Mandarin-speaking audience almost immediately. Raised in a devout Taoist family, the idea that Jesus was a “Foreigner’s God” was ingrained in him from a young age. This was a deterrent for him in his early years even as he occasionally yearned to find out more about Jesus whilst studying in a missionary school.

His first real encounter with Jesus, came later in life after he had established a career in the TV industry. His bosom friend, fellow actor and persecutor of Christians, told Chor Meng that he had come to know the Lord. Chor Meng “overlooked” the matter and moved on, not knowing that God had set in motion a chain of events which would eventually bring him home. His daughter subsequently fell very ill and since his wife, herself a Christian, at that point in time was overseas, he took it upon himself to pray and see if God was indeed mighty to save. That night, his daughter got better and he took a step closer to knowing God. Eventually, after many incidents and constant prayer support from his friends and family, Chor Meng came to know the Lord.

His faith was put to the test when he was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, a severe physical condition which might seriously impair him. Thankfully, God saw him through that ordeal and he is now able to live a healthy life confident that God is good.
After hearing his amazing testimony, many people were moved and a total of 11 new brothers and sisters said the sinner’s prayer and accepted the Lord into their lives, receiving the greatest blessing that parent’s day could give.
