HIM Quito Annual Conference 2012
Hope Quito held its annual conference from 24 – 26 August 2012. This was truly a special and memorable occasion as we celebrated our seventh anniversary as a church. It was our privilege to have Pastor Simon Eng, the president of Hope International Ministries, and his wife, Lai Eng, join us for the first time in South America. The pastors and our fellow church-builders from Peru and Chile also joined us for this significant event.
At the conference, Pastor Simon, Julian and Timothy shared about the beauty and importance of building, and being in, small communities that are Christ-centred, attractive and able to impact others. We were challenged to be people who move outside the four walls of the church and set up small, loving and vibrant communities in our homes, workplaces, and schools to reach out and bring Christ to the people in Quito, Ecuador, South America and all over the world. We also held workshops in small groups where we learned about healthy relationships among singles and married couples, as well as hearing from God prophetically.
We were very touched and inspired by the leaders’ love for the church and their commitment to God’s cause. The presence of God was strong and we learned much from Pastor Simon, Lai Eng and Julian over the three-day conference. We celebrated our seventh anniversary with a video clip highlighting testimonies of changed lives and the growth of the church over the past seven years. Our members presented a native Ecuadorian dance for our pastors who travelled such a long distance to be with us. We also cut a cake with the church logo to commemorate the moment.
It was indeed a wonderful time of fun, food and fellowship, as well as thanksgiving to God for blessing us the past seven years, and an inspiration and encouragement to continue running the race fervently and to build a strong and vibrant church community for His glory. After the conference, the pastors went on a day trip to the countryside and some small towns near Quito. We enjoyed the beautiful Ecuadorian landscapes and spirit-filled fellowship together. Thank you Pastor Simon, Sister Lai Eng, Julian and Serene and our fellow brothers and sisters from South America missions for your love, impartation, fellowship and constant prayers! Te queremos mucho! (We love you very much!)

Project Sparkle - Community Project (Him Singapore)
Being obedient and faithful Christians of Hope Church Singapore, we attend our respective services at the Axis weekly. In the comfort of our plush purple seats and the cool breeze of the air-con in our brand-spanking new and clean auditorium, we sing praises to Christ our Saviour and eagerly anticipate sermons delivered passionately by our anointed pastors.
However, in modern day Singapore, one of the richest countries in the world with arguably the highest population density of millionaires and where almost everything is so readily available, how often is it that we ever get (or bother to, for that matter!) to practise what is preached? How does God’s Word come alive and how can we put it into practice?

Project Sparkle enables us to see what Jesus saw when He walked on earth in the flesh and had compassion on the people. The community of Kampong Glam, especially the elderly, needs our Lord and Saviour. And for some of us who had never done any housework before, this would be our first experience! The Church as the body of Christ was moving as one – sent in God’s name to bless others! We were not just living by God’s Word; we were living it out.
Project Sparkle is only a small step towards the Church becoming salt and light in the community as we desire to go local and global. I believe that we have sown seeds of truth in the hearts of the elderly through Project Sparkle and became testimonies to those who saw us work in God’s name. By faith, I am anticipating testimonies of blessing and harvest!
Unidus Community Centre - HIM Brisbane
UNIDUS COMBINED SERVICE 26 August 2012 The Sunday morning air was crisp and the atmosphere was brimming with excitement, with the smell of fresh coffee permeating from the new bookstore and café as Hope Church Brisbane churchgoers waited eagerly outside for the combined service to begin. For many of us there, this was our first service in the main auditorium at Unidus, and an experience long waited for.
Before the service began, we had a powerful session of prayer, praising and exalting our God who had provided for, and walked with us, every step of the way in building Unidus – from planting the very first seedlings in Pastors Wilson and Lai Ling’s dreams to a now-completed community centre in Willawong. It was such a privilege to have Hope Church Brisbane come together, united across its different services to engage in corporate prayer before the actual service.
The service began with a spectacular display of our church’s many talents in worship and the arts. There were performances by our orchestra, choir and dance ministry, who all put together well-choreographed and well-rehearsed expressions of not only who our God is, but also what our church stood for – multiculturalism, unity and a heart for God. We also heard inspiring testimonies from two members of the church about what the opening of Unidus meant for them. Their testimonies opened our eyes to the many opportunities in which God will move and use us in the near future within the community.
Following the theme of “new beginnings” and the much-felt anticipation for a new season for our church, Pastor Wilson preached a message focusing on the all-important pursuit of building the kingdom of God. The sermon refreshed our hearts with the urgent need to grow and strengthen the church. He preached of the importance of the church itself, and our part to play in making it the place where God is found. It was a message of not only hope and expectation for the future, but of thanksgiving for what the Lord has provided in the past.
Altogether, the combined service was wholly inspiring in preparing our hearts for what is to come and was satisfying for many, in seeing what our praiseworthy God has done in Unidus for His church in order so that we may bless and save others.
