Cultivate (biblical) Church Culture, Values and Philosophy Initiative
Today, Pastor Kit Siang shares an update from the "Cultivate (biblical) church culture, values and philosophy" initiative.
We have taken a 3-step approach in this initiative as follows.
1. Define our culture
The first step is to define our culture. Cultural attributes are made up of core values as well as mission, philosophy of ministry and statement of faith.
2. Communicate our culture
The second step is to communicate culture. To do this we need to make available all documents pertaining to our core values, statement of faith, philosophy of ministry and mission statement in written form and in the respective languages so that our members can understand.
In addition to that, we need to interpretate our culture accurately. To ensure the right interpretation, we propose our international elders to re-teach our philosophy of ministry and Core Values. These lessons will be video recorded so that it can be disseminated to the churches for use.
3. Live out our culture
The third step is to live it out. We emphasise to every church leadership team that the most effective way to impart our culture to our members is for our leaders to live it out in their lives. We believe in the saying that spirit is caught, more than taught.
Practical Steps
Our initiative is currently working on a few areas to help us do the above. The video recording of the first of four sections of our original philosophy of ministry is done. As for the Core Values, we plan to edit it from the video teaching of The CORE 1 of 2 in Singapore in July 2009 and The CORE2 of 2 in Kuala Lumpur, in November 2009.
Our hope is to make the video teachings available by the end of 2012 and churches can start to use them from 2013 onwards.
We strongly recommend every church to re-teach all these lessons to all church members via playing the video teachings at a Bible Conference where church leaders will be facilitators.
