CATALYSE - PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT BY PASTOR HAI ENG

There are 6 strategic priorities in these five years. In total, there are 16 global initiatives to implement and support these priorities. Today we hear Pastor Hai Eng’s CATALYSE story. Hai Eng is currently serving part-time in HIM’s Elders’ Office. She is also the CATALYSE Champion for the Professional Management priority.
Could you please explain a little bit about the global priority From Basic Management to Professional Management?
Currently we have a presence in 35 nations. It is imperative for HIM to make the transition from a basic to a professional approach in management to serve our churches across the globe. In order to improve our service, we have to develop vital organisational infrastructure to support and sustain the planting of HIM churches worldwide. Our five-year goal is to establish an effective global management team. This team will play a key role in facilitating five-fold leaders to create adaptive innovations to transform and reinvent churches systematically. This includes the setting up of a Global Office and also the development of a Global Polity to provide us clarity in managing the complexities and challenges related to a growing global movement.
Describe briefly what your initiative teams have been working on on the first half of 2011.
We have been working on the recruitment of people for key positions in the management team, namely, Head of Ministries, Head of Operations, Community Service Group Leader and Corporate Communications Group Leader. We have been concentrating on the recruitment of the first two positions which is the Head of Ministries and Head of Operations. These two positions are vital because they are the key players in setting up our Global Office. So far, we have received recommendations and we are still following up on them. We foresee that we the position of Head of Ministries can be filled by early 2012. However, we will need more time to recruit a Head of Operations. Should God move in your heart to consider this position or if you have any recommendations, please do write to me at haieng@byhim.org for the Job Description and requirements.
Other than that, our Polity Team which is led by Dr Wilson Lim and Pastor Ben KC Lee has been working on the first draft of our Global Polity. The development of this polity is laborious and complex. This team aims to get the first preliminary draft out by December 2011.
What do you hope to see by the end of 2015?
It is my hope to see that HIM will have a strong global management team to support HIM’s global mission and also clear governance, ministerial and organisational structures of our churches and movement.
How do you feel about CATALYSE?
I feel optimistic that when the plans detailed in CATALYSE are implemented well, we will have a stronger infrastructure to support HIM churches and in advancing HIM’s mission to raise Christ-centred disciples to plant vibrant, biblical churches in our cities, countries and all over the world.
How can (we) in HIM pray for and support CATALYSE?
For this Professional Management priority, please do pray for us as follows:-
- Recruitment of right candidates for the vacancies in the management team.
- Wisdom and God’s revelation for the Global Polity Team as they draft a preliminary draft.
- Wisdom to structure the Global Office to optimise on HIM’s available resources.
