HIM FAMILY NEWS

Europe Leaders Conference

Every year Hope Europe organises a Leaders' Conference (ELC) to train our leaders and allow them to fellowship and exchange their experiences with one another. In this year the third ELC was, for the very first time, hosted by Hope London from 27-29 August, with Wisdom as the theme. Apart from Ps Simon Eng, Ps PK Tse, Ps Marcus Rose and me who were the ELC speakers in the last many years, this year we were privileged to have Ps Wilson Lim of Hope Brisbane to be our guest speaker.

This events attracted over 120 people from different countries in Europe including the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, Czech Republic and Italy. What made this leaders' conference so special was the presence of a number of honourable guests from Hope International including Ps Denis Lu of Hope Kuching, Ps Kwonglie Ong of Hope Jahor Bahru and Ps Ian Foley of Hope Melbourne. The intercession teaching by Ps Ian before the ELC attracted many intercessors from Hope Europe. They were all blessed and refreshed. The international pastors were invited to share their experiences in various workshops in a cosy setting. Many of the delegates, most of whom were first-timers, were so impressed and said they would invite more people to join the conference next year.

Hope Singapore - HopeKids Ministry

While the world converged its attention on Singapore’s inaugural opening ceremony of the Youth Olympic Games with the lighting of the Olympic flame, HopeKids of Hope Church Singapore lit a torch of a bigger kind with their own YOG (You’re Obviously Gifted) series of services.

In conjunction with the Youth Olympic Games, HopeKids’ YOG series was designed with the aim of instilling confidence in the little ones of God’s Kingdom. Telling children that “YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY GIFTED” is by no means a way of boosting confidence in solely one’s abilities. Rather, the YOG series of services espoused godly principles of discovering God’s promises, having faith in them and giving one’s best always.

The series leveraged on a combination of fun-filled games and skits to capture the children’s attention. As evidenced in how 11-year-old Ruth Wong exclaimed, “I like the games and skit, I like these the most,” the children were clearly enthralled with the way the series was executed.

Centred on the book of Nehemiah, the series kicked off by teaching the children that God gives everyone talents in their own ways. The second service provided an insight into how perseverance in the face of unpleasant training produces a harvest in latter stages. The third service wrapped up the successful series with the lessons on never quitting and always giving their best.

In a similar vein to the Olympic torch relay, our fire for God’s kingdom has to be passed on from torch to torch. While children may not perform supposedly “great” things in measured terms, their potential to shine for God is akin to a dry wicker that is waiting to be lit. Once lit, even the slightest flame can kindle millions and most importantly, give light to the world!

Hope KL Student Service Anniversary

It has been 1 year since God opened the door and provided for us to start our very own Hope KL Student Service. Today, 7 August 2010 marked the celebration of our first student service anniversary.

With the theme, ‘Celebration of Stars’, everyone came in bright and colourful outfit with great joyous mood to celebrate God’s goodness in our midst. The celebration hall was beautifully decorated and the wonderful aroma of food filled the hall. There were around 90 people joining our celebration that night; our youths, university and college students and not forgetting our Pastors too.

The celebration started with pre-service prayer at 5.30pm and followed by a great fellowship dinner. Soon after dinner, we had a short game to lighten the atmosphere. It was a fun time having students participating together in the game, laughing and cheering for one another.

After the game, Bro. David Gan took on the stage to share with our students about being a S.T.A.R;

S - Sharing Life (Life Groups)
T - Testifying God (Impacting life, impacting community, impacting world with the gospel)
A - Ascending Growth (Spiritual growth, character growth etc)
R - Recharging Faith (Edifying and encouragement whenever we get together)

That night, our senior Pastor, Ps. Simon Eng took the opportunity to preach to the students. After the sharing and prayer, a short multimedia revolving flash backs of memorable student group events throughout the whole year was played. The night went on to high Praise and a group photo session. Before the celebration ended, door gifts were distributed to everyone present in the celebration. Today, we also launched our very own student service bulletin.

Overall, it had been a fun, exciting and memorable event. Along the journey, we might face many problems, but God never fails to lead us to a better path. Our God is the bright morning Star (Rev 22:16) and He calls us to shine for Him (Phi 2:15).

Impacting Lives. Impacting The Community. Impacting The World.

Hope Brisbane Working Adult Conference 2010

2010 saw the Working Adult Getaway transformed into the Working Adult Conference. Our theme was appropriately named “Influence”. Activities kicked off on Friday, July 2nd, when Ps. Jeff met with leaders serving in working adult ministries in an up-close-and-personal forum. It provided a much needed insight to the unique challenges of adapting, leading and influencing working adult ministries.

The official programme started on Saturday, July 3, with all the delegates gathering at 9am at the Bardon Conference Centre. We started praise and worship with a bang and God’s presence was thick amongst our midst. God helped contain our exuberant sound within the conference with the band facing noise level restrictions. Later that day, we had two guest speakers, Dr David Hunt and Glenn Hohnberg who gave a talk on goal-setting and outreach in the marketplace respectively. These sessions provided our delegates with a fresh perspective. Later that afternoon, after a sumptuous lunch, we had two concurrent forums: one on wellness and the other aimed towards budding business owners.

Throughout the conference, Ps Jeff conducted three teaching sessions. The appropriately named teachings “Call to Influence”, “Source of Influence”, and “Influence for the Long Haul” provided great insights and fresh perspectives for working people through all the different stages in life. Feedback from participants found Ps Jeff’s teaching entertaining, refreshing as well as practical.

Sunday, we had our service followed by lunch. We ended the conference with the delegates gathering in small groups; with people they rarely met, for a heart-to-heart discussion about their take home points. Although the delegates were tired from the action-packed sessions, they now had a newfound sense of direction. Written by NeeKee Tai

Hope Melbourne Bible Conference

This year’s Hope Melbourne Bible Conference explored the theme of “Triumph: A Victorious Church”. The venue was at Northcote Town Hall; its art deco interior with a cathedral style high ceiling and clerestories gave the conference a heavenly atmosphere. The venue resonated well with the objective of the conference: “… we are gathering during these few days with a heavenly agenda. God wants us to taste and see that He is good, and reveal a Jesus of victory,” as stated by Pastor Mark Rusic of Hope Melbourne City Centre.

The three-day-conference hosted nine speakers, all from the four centres of Hope Melbourne. Hope Melbourne’s Senior Pastor Ian Foley opened the conference with his sermon about God’s definition of Victory and His ultimate goal for His Church on earth. The victory we need to learn is exemplified through the final hour when Christ was nailed on the cross. Despite the intense physical pain and humiliation and the total rejection from God, citing Psalm 22, Jesus was filled with faith as he looked beyond the suffering of cross to the time when the world would come to receive the joy of salvation through him. Ps Ian emphasised how that moment epitomised the spiritual victory in the midst of suffering; it is something we need to build into our churches today. The subsequent teachings by other speakers built on this foundation. They explored various aspects: the characteristics of victorious church, hindrances to victory, how to walk in victory etc.

The recurring message of the Conference is that Jesus is doing something new in churches everywhere as well as our local churches in Hope Melbourne as we persevere to fulfil the Great Commission. There is a fresh anointing God wants to release to our churches today. This comes down to experiencing tangible victories through actively seeking divine and supernatural intervention of God in every situation of our lives.

It was really encouraging when on the very first night Pastor Fook Chun saw a prophetic vision: “I saw spots of burning fire everywhere in this building… God told me these are the fires of the burning bush. Everywhere many people are having a personal encounter with God…”

Pastor Mark Rusic summarised well the aim of the conference in the conference booklet, “Jesus Christ... knowing his fullness will enable us to persevere unto great victories in His name.” As each of us seek to encounter Jesus in the most personal way in our everyday lives, we can bring the victory of Christ into our churches, our homes, our workplaces, and every other aspect of our lives.

Hope Auckland Healing Service & Youth Anniversary

Hope Auckland is experiencing a powerful move of God and is seeing the beginnings of revival! Healings and encounters with God are breaking out in every LG and have quickly become expected, widespread and normal with leaders, members and new believers all involved!

On the 3rd of September, eczema disappeared before our eyes after prayer on the arms of a 19 year old girl who had suffered from it since birth. The following week, based on that testimony, a 13 year old girl was healed of the same thing. An 18 year old boy was healed of a deep shoulder muscle injury at the Healing Service on the 5th of September following a word of knowledge the day before about it. Thank God for 123 people attended the Healing Service with many people came before for prayer. A man born with Polio was able to move fingers on his left hand after prayer - something he was not able to do previously! A swollen and numb foot was healed after prayer, as well as a swollen jaw, to name a few.

Generation180, Hope Auckland's youth ministry, celebrated its 5th birthday that week and what started as a birthday party turned into an awesome move of God. Every individual there had personal encounters with God, including visitors. There was one salvation that night. The following week, a sore eye, sore wrist, sore back and eczema were healed at one of the youth Life Groups and there were 4 salvations that night!

On both the 4th and 8th of September, groups of people from across church set out with Peter Truong on Treasure Hunts. Words of knowledge were received about strangers we were about to come across, including their attire, name, condition and location. Upon finding these individuals, we prayed for them and blessed them. One particular man has returned to church for 2 weeks now, has started attending life group and has even brought his fiance! Over the last two weeks, we have seen a total of 10 cross the line of faith!

There is definitely a sense of excitement and expectation here in Auckland and many have reported greater intimacy with God and revelation of His greatness and power. There is a heightened burden to impact our communities and a realisation of how easily God is able to move and use anybody! God is just so good! Written by Stephen Soh
